photoblog image Yangon Circle Train #9

Yangon Circle Train #9

This train does not have air-con, and the seats are more basic bench than comfortable chair. No matter...there is more opportunity for people-watching inside the carriage this time.

Here is an elderly lady monk, making herself at-home...

J'aime beaucoup le portrait de la deuxième photo.
Ray: Merci Martine.
Such a wonderful set of images, Ray!
Ray: You are very kind, Elizabeth.
A nice shot, Ray, she has a lot of character.
Ray: I thought she had character, too, Frank.

It was not easy to make these shots...sitting not even 2 metres from her, but I wanted a shot of her eyes without her being aware I was making the shot. I was quite pleased with the outcome.

Did you have your camera on silent or did you ask permission Ray?
Ray: If I had asked permission, Chad, then it would not have been a candid shot. As I recall I sat the camera on my knee and shot blind...clearing my throat loudly as I pressed the shutter button.

Wouldn't it be interesting to know what he's thinking..
Ray: [S]he's probably thinking "That bloddy foreigner better get that bloddy Canon out of my face or he is going to lose it!".

wonderful, touching portraits!
Ray: I was quite pleased with the outcome, Philine.
Great portraits Ray!
Ray: Thank you, Bill.
I am a bit shy of taking candids.
Ray: I have overcome some of my shyness...enough to usually have a go if the opportunity is unusual.

A fine portrait, especially the lower image. Good that he has a weapon for defence.
Ray: She seems to have a big umbrella, Alan...perhaps it is multi-purpose.
Very good indeed, does she walk about without any footwear whatsoever?
Ray: Most monks do walk bare-footed, Brian, so probably so...although it is possibly she has a pair of flip flops in her shoulder bag.
she has a preference to face the direction of motion rather than support her hunching back on the seat, Ray.
