Flowering rice

We are growing a small plot of brown glutinous rice this year...I went to see how it was progressing, and found that it is growing strongly, and flowering right now.

I have never seen a picture of rice flowering before - in fact, I must confess that I didn't realise it did
Ray: Rice is a grass...grass flowers! smile

Most people will never have noticed rice flowers, Lisl.

A wonderful image. Never heard of brown glutinous rice before..
Ray: Glutinous Rice is also know as Sticky Rice...it is very popular in Thailand, especially up-country where many communities still eat with their fingers rather than with utensils. [I conducted a class at school today, and was teaching the kids the English words for crockery and cutlery...most had never seen a table knife.]
Bonjour
Je n'ai jamais vu cela de si près ..
Merci car du coup j'apprends avec tes photos .
Bonne journée Ray
Ray: J'aime éduquer un peu sur les choses que je vois et expérimente en Thaïlande, Claudine.

A wonderful close-up - I never saw flowering rice.
Ray: It is a quite lovely sight, Philine, and I like it close-up best of all as the flowers are tiny.

Sounds like it is doing well. I never knew that rice had flowers; I've only ever seen it in rice puddings and that was around 40 years ago. Well done to your estate staff
Ray: Rice is a wonderful base for the foods I eat to sustain myself on longer rides, Alan...I don't have the convenience of a cake shop every 500 metres.

Would jer look at dat. I have never see. Such a sight Ray.
Ray: Stick wid me, Bro...I got stuff wot yer won't see other places maaaaaate!
Never seen rice flowers before. Are you going to make rice beer?
Ray: I doubt many folks have ever seen rice flowers, Bill.

Some folks in the Village make rice whisky.
Some grasses that flower like this have tiny stars. This is beautiful.
Ray: It is the first time we have grown this rice, Mary...it is gorgeous stuff, and even the leaves are chocolate brown.
So close one can count the individual grains.
Ray: The flowers are nearly microscopic, Brian, so you have to get in close to see them.
