Khao Yai #5

And, here is a Buddhist temple on a hilltop inside a dense forest in which there are all kinds of odd and unusual sculptures.

I am keen to stroll up the hill for a closer view of the temple, but Na is refusing to get out of the car and looks very uncomfortable..."Let's get out of here, Ray...this temple does not feel right!" She squeaks.

So I just grab this quick zoom shot, so you can see it is, indeed, most odd...and we are on our way!

That purple head is creepy!
Ray: I wondered if the monks at this temple might be augmenting their "reality" with funny mushrooms, or LSD, Larry.
A bit like Disneyland.... but I would be quick to trust Na's intuition...
Ray: Yes...I thought it looked a bit like Weird Walt Land, Elizabeth, but the statues in the forest seemed very odd and un-Buddhist. I didn't question Na's unease.

I can relate to Na's intuition and don't feel comfortable. I am glad you respected her wish to move on. That purple head, those eyes are creepy. Great series, I went back to the archives.
Ray: In things relating to Buddhism, Na can be a bit conservative, Astrid, but I think she called this one correctly.
How strange, Ray. I wonder if you/Na have ever encountered such a place before???
Ray: We have encountered a couple of temples where Na has responded similarly, Ginnie. The senior monk at each temple has quite a lot of autonomy regarding decision for developing sites...an "off" senior monk can go off the rails...

Magnifique temple ! J'aime la végétation luxuriante, c'est très beau.
Ray: Nous sommes au bord d'une forêt tropicale humide, Martine, donc la végétation est dense et luxuriante ici.

We are at the edge of a tropical rainforest, Martine, so the vegetation is dense and lush here.

I am pleased you took notice of Na, Ray. You might be surprised to hear I have been in churches in this country which have driven me straight back out
Ray: This does not surprise me at all, Lisl...in fact, I have had similar feelings in one or two churches.

[Funny thing...the first time I visited a Mosque I felt quite apprehensive, until I actually crossed the threshold and discovered a lovely space that gave me a wonderful sense of calmness.]

Na is clearly a lot more sensitive than yourself regarding these places.
Ray: Na is more sensitive than me regarding everything, Chris...

I thought it was a theme park at first; Disneyland seemed right. Did Na give a reason as to not feeling it was right?
Ray: Na was a bit distressed about it, Alan, so I did not pry deeply.

Funny how our brains interpret what we see, what it wants to see. I thought I saw a strangely dressed person fiddling with the flag over the road.
Ray: Now that you bring it to my attention, Chad, I see what you see also.
Very odd, indeed! I'd go with Na's instincts smile
Ray: I did, Tom.
I can understand a bit why Na felt as she did, it doesn't seem to have any sense of reverence about it, it is more like a millionaires play house.
Ray: Yes.Na is serious about her Buddhism, and I feel she thought the theme of this complex was facetious, or worse, Brian.
I would be so interested to know what she felt.
Ray: The moment is now lost, without me asking the question, Mary.
