Hoverfly on a rain-moistened bud.

There are many species of Hoverfly in our garden, and I tend to remember them for their spectacular eye colour schemes.

What a great catch of him scaling the flower petal wall!
Ray: When I uploaded it, Elizabeth, I considered titling it "Hove conquers Everest".
The eyes definitely have it, Ray! Who knew they would be so "studied."
Ray: I love the eyes of Hoverflies, Ginnie, and have another species to show later in this series.

Every time you show these 'flying objects' I am impressed by the details. Great catch and the droplets do make the difference.
Ray: The Hoverfly seemed unfussed about being wet, Astrid...neither moaning nor cursing.

I can hear him slurping from here Ray. The eyes are certainly very distinctive features
Ray: When he dries out, Chris, he'll probably go and get breakfast.

Probably the water droplets have doubled its weight. The eyes are incredible.
Ray: My eyes would be like this only if I was seriously hungover, Alan.

Yes, the eyes are fantastic!
Ray: I suppose it is camouflage, Philine, but it could also be some kind of communication facility [like semaphore flags].
What a feast...I suppose Ray.
Ray: I don't think it eats flower buds, Chad...probably waiting to dry off before flying somewhere for a snack.
Compound eyes are the most amazing structures Ray
Ray: This is so, Bill.

Magnifique macro, j'aime beaucoup.
Ray: Merci pour votre commentaire encourageant, Martine.
This fly has so many bits and pieces of its body, and as for those eyes, terrific.
Ray: Hoverflies are brilliant flyers, Brian, but it is their eyes that really attract me to them.

For a moment there, I thought it was after your ice cream, but then it was a bud.
Ray: Ha Ha

Yea...I can see the ice-cream cone there, Louis.
Ms. Hover has had a shower too and now is having a drink.
Ray: Waiting, I think, for the sun to dry her off.
Great shot
Ray: The critter seemed reluctant to fly, so I had the luxury of a couple of goes at getting the eyes reasonably in focus, Tom.
I like the wing pattern...
another fine character with unforgettable eyes, despite this angle, Ray. wonderful!

The eyes take up quite a goodly proportion of the whole hoverfly, Ray
