A short visit to Laos #1

Travel with me, and buddies Tim and Koen, to Southern Laos.

We meet at my house [#1] where we stay for 1 night and practice our beer-drinking technique...Beer Laos is very good, and so we want to be in best shape to enjoy it.

The map will be a useful reference for you...our trip takes us anti-clockwise around the purple course I have marked for your pleasure. You can see most of the trip actually took place in Thailand, but this series...which adds words to my pictures-only Coffeetable book...deals only with the Pakse to Paksan sections in Laos.

The main image here, on the Title Page of the book, features a platform fisherwoman working her net in the Mekong River in the late evening.

You were sensible in getting so well prepared, Ray
Ray: Travellers must be fit, Lisl! smile

This is exciting!
Ray: I hope you will enjoy the trip, Chris.
And off we go! I wonder how long the fisher woman stands there (and how many potty breaks she has to take???)?
Ray: She will be well-practiced in bladder control, Ginnie.

The picture of the fisherwoman is just amazing, she must have strong legs.... that is quite the trip, do you know how much km/miles?? Okay lets go, my seat belts are fastened....
Ray: I guess it is something like 1500km, Astrid.
Très jolies photo et présentation.
Ray: Merci, Martine.
This will be good. I like the image of the fisherman with the sparkly light on the water.
Ray: I was pleased to make the shot, Chad, but wished I had a longer lens to get closer.

Ray: Thank you, Alan...I trust you will enjoy the trip, which is another of our Budget Tours adventures.

If you study the map closely you will find the heavy purple line, which marks our route, and you will see it is further marked with simple numbers that I will reference for your pleasure..."1" is my home, and the place from where we begin the trip.

The fisherwoman will have time to sit down, around 2200 tonight, after she has cooked/sold the fish, fed her family, bathed the kids, washed the clothes, weaved another 50cm of silk cloth, and dragged her drunken husband home from the karaoke bar down the lane.
I like looking at the interesting names on the map. Perhaps your next trip could be a short one to Khon Kaen with Koen, just to practice saying it. Excellent shot of the fisherwoman with her bright sun protection.
Ray: In Thai, Koen's name is Khun Koen, so that would be a short trip to Khon Kaen with Khun Koen. I thought that pic was a good one for the Title Page of the book, Mary.

That picture of the fisher woman is a great one. Bring on the trip pictures.
Ray: I hope you will enjoy the trip, Louis.
i like the long figure stoically going on about business, Ray. this will be a good one to follow.
Ray: I hope to show Laos as a place of beauty and beautiful people, Ayush...I have visited Laos 3 times and enjoyed each trip.
Right, I've cleaned my glasses and am ready for the off
Ray: Good man....there is still a window seat available about halfway down the bus on your left.
OK, I'm ready. Perhaps just another beer first.
Ray: One for the road...always wise! Beer Laos is excellent, and cheap, so we should have no difficulty on the road. smile
