Superbes portraits.
Ray: J'ai vraiment apprécié les opportunités que m'a offert cette vieille voiture, Martine.
i rather like the natural ventilation (open window, no doors) set up here, Ray. lot of fingers are being pointed too.
Ray: I like this carriage, Ayush...all natural air-con, intimacy with total strangers...great for photographers.

Well they seem to have engaged in the attendant in conversation. Were they asking him if he had any cake?
Ray: Yes...in fact they are deep into the negotiation of One Family-size Devonshire Tea...I am hoping it will be so big that they will be embarrassed about over-ordering, and will beg me to consume the evidence...
Great portraits!
Ray: I prefer this style of carriage, where you sit facing total strangers and so get drawn into their little dramas...

Would they be sort of middle class then Ray?
Ray: Oh yes! Travelling for leisure is a distinctly middle class activity for Thai citizens, Chad. Ordering of Devonshire Teas is a sign they are not newly wealthy, but have had excess income at their disposal for some time.
You can tell in their faces, Ray, that they've been "in the know" for quite awhile. smile
Ray: Indeed, Ginnie...I did ask the man if he would mind being included in my Circle Train portfolio.

What a fine service! The couple looks rather Europeen.
Ray: A Thai couple, Philine, and quite fond of travel.
It is good to know Devonshire teas have reached here!

Fine portraits Ray
Ray: Burma was conquered with the Devonshire Tea Tactic, Bill...if they had tried with it in Afghanistan then that region, too, might have been colonised...
The man seems quite pleasant and has warm eyes.
Ray: You have read him well,Mary..a pleasant and good-humoured bloke.
A very fine image at the top, great feeling of communication.
Ray: I enjoyed observing this couple and their experiencing of the trip.

On Monday...a different couple.

Lots of fingers in the air. But I am sure they understood each other.
Ray: Clearly they are all on the same page, Louis, as all have got 1 finger active in the negotiation.

Thai and Burmese are quite different languages, so finger gestures might be the common language.

I love your comment to Alan.... and did they over-order???
I love these portraits and it is always great to 'watch' people... fascinating...
Ray: Ha Ha

They ended up with two hot drinks of whatever was in that big flask, Astrid.

Yes...people watching is great fun, and I am confident others think that when they take candid snaps of me.

Well they look as if they know what they want..
Ray: All parties agree there is an order for 1...the only issue is in identifying what it will be 1 of, Chris.
He's a sharp looking guy with a humourous glint in his eye smile
Ray: A seasoned and confident traveller, Tom, and I did ask his permission to make a previous shot which included him and his travelling companion.
