Garden Wonders #1

I found this large, brilliant green Hopper chomping away on our garden delights. It tolerated me up close, so I went in for some more detail:

GORGEOUS, Ray!
Ray: I thought so, too, Elizabeth.
Lucky you, Ray. I hope if he's not afraid of you that doesn't mean he'll eat up your whole garden?!
Ray: They have a big appetite, Ginnie, but the plants grow quickly here.

Absolutely superb, Ray - the lentoid eyes of these creatures always fascinate me
Ray: It is a very handsome critter, Lisl, and its eyes are spectacular!

WOW, you really gave us a peek into the small world. He has a lot of 'body armour'.... I almost can hear him eat. I hope there are some bushes left in your garden??
Ray: I believe it is possible to hear the crunching and munching of this one, Astrid...it is an enthusiastic eater!

Love that vibrant green. Jackie says it looks very similar in design to a locust
Ray: I expect it is cousin to a locust, Chris, and its colour makes it stand out even in the greenery of its lunch!

Magnifiques gros plans.
He clearly thinks you are a big softie Ray. These are cracking pics
Ray: Yes...I am increasingly of the view that these critters talk to each other, and have passed the word on about the benign nature of inter-species relations at Chez Na&Ray, Bill.

Oh wow! I especially like its eyes and its green spotty shawl.
Ray: It is a lovely thing and [mostly] vegetarian, Alan.

I always imagine that these fellows are related to the locust lot Ray.
Ray: I expect you are correct in this imagining, Chad.
iNSECTS ARE MORE INCREDIBLE WHEN WE SEE THE DETAILS. Sorry for yelling. Love the shots.
Ray: I agree totally with your emphatic statement, Mary...it is a fundamental reason for my interest in macro photography.

A regular green salad. Some excellent macro shots.
Ray: Thank you, Louis. It is a beautiful colour.
It's their eyes that always facinate me, how do they anage to see anything.
Ray: I think this is just eye decoration, Brian, and doesn't impact their ability to see.
You and Canon don't bother it, do they?!
Ray: I have a lot of practice now a stealth techniques for getting close to critters, Tom...the two bonus images were made with the lens hood of the macro lens nearly touching the critter.

a plethora of green - I see some spikes at the legs of the grasshopper? Great close-ups!
Ray: It is a beautiful Hopper, Philine...even its leg spurs are decorated.
i particularly like the armoured shoulder, Ray
