Garden Wonders #4

This gal is special.

She looks like a very big grasshopper, but she has developed the ability to fly more like a small bird. Her powerful back legs allow her to spring mightily into the air, and then she opens her large wings and flies with good control to a new resting spot, and lands there with confidence.

She is a gorgeous critter, but her eyes are certainly her main attractive feature!

Let's get in closer, so we can see the detail of their loveliness...

It's an amazing world, Ray...
Ray: It is as you claim, Larry.
Certainly an incredible critter! I do love grasshoppers' stripidy eyes! I wonder how that assists in their sight... if at all?
Ray: I am pretty sure the stripes are just camouflage, Elizabeth.

Superbes photos. J'aime le gros plan sur les yeux.
Ray: Les yeux sont très inhabituels, Martine, et me rappellent des bonbons bouillis.

a 'gal' ? -how can you recognise that? I love your description.
Ray: The boy is much smaller than the gal with this species, Philine. These are very handsome characters in our garden.

She certainly is incredibly made, Ray. I have seen a species here that "takes off" as if flying for 6 feet or more, though I imagine yours goes further than that
Ray: Her short escape flights, when disturbed , are usually 5-20 metres, Lisl, but she can fly out of sight if she decides she has had enough of our garden.

Just imagine if we could leap similar distances in scale, the world would be very different
Ray: You help me to recall scenes of astronauts jumping about in the reduced gravity of the Moon, Chris.
Magnifique !!
Cela doit etre merveilleux de pouvoir capter de toutes ces petites bêtes ..
Bonne journée Ray
Ray: Notre jardin m'apporte tant d'animaux, Claudine ... Je peux juste prendre un appareil photo dans le jardin et les trouver quand je le souhaite.

She sounds scary to me Ray.
Ray: She does not usually eat her mate after copulation, Chad, so she is a cutey compared with the Orb Spider.

You're getting quite good at this critter photography lark. I like the "humbug" eyes.
Ray: I still have much to learn, Alan, but am enjoying the practice...thinking of the "10,000hours to expert" theory, I have a way to go.
Stunning shots, Ray - you certainly get some work out of that 100mm lens!
Ray: You are very kind, Tom. I like this lens a lot.

These may be your best macros, Ray. They certainly are clear and well-focused.
Ray: You are too kind, Mary. I am seriously into World of Small at the moment.
She certainly is a great looking creature.
Ray: Nature's Little Wonders impress me at least as much as the Big Ones, Brian.
Simply awesome Ray
Ray: A beautiful critter, Martin.
she is a gorgeous creature Ray... i love her eyes....petersmile
Ray: Her eyes are stunning, Peter.
