photoblog image Audax Randonneurs #4

Audax Randonneurs #4

About 105km ...past halfway...in the hills and enjoying them, despite what my expression might be suggesting!

The official photographer is laying down in the middle of the road to make these shots, and is clearly determined to get the old foreigner in his frame.

About 20km prior to this point I committed a somewhat embarrassing blunder...I was powering along, enjoying myself greatly on these rolling hills, and got ahead of my group...I took a wrong turn, which cost me 4-5km extra riding by the time I realised my mistake and back-tracked...Ooooops!

he served the old foreigner justice...
i am as proud as hell at you Ray for being able to do a race that distance....petersmile
Ray: I was a bit shocked to discover that 10% of the photographer's shots featured me at the centre, Peter.
You're showing great form! I echo Peter's comment - so proud of you!
Ray: I was slipping along very nicely at this point, Elizabeth.

No wonder the photographer was keeping you in the frame - I guess you were not just a foreign devil, but perhaps the most mature participant, Ray?
Ray: Yup...oldest and foreignest, Lisl.

Probably my bike qualifies in the same categories...

you seem to have managed this steep climb up without any efforts - my respect!
Ray: At this stage, Philine, I thought I was riding on a horse with wings...I was having a wonderful time!

Well you seem to have always one for striking out on his own..

However I must say I am mightily impressed with all of this
Ray: I am much impressed with the Audax concept, Chris...it encourages one to be audacious.

Cracking images especially the one with you fill frame. I wouldn't have made such a mistake unless the wheel I was hanging on for dear life had gone the wrong way.
Ray: Great pics, aren't they, Alan...I was grateful to get them from this "official" photographer.

I seem to prefer to either ride on my own, or ride at the front of the group...getting towed along feels too much like cheating or something...

Pas facile dans les côtes.
Ray: Les collines sont une nouveauté pour moi, Martine, et j'ai adoré rouler ici.
The official photographer has done a good job of showing the true grit of an Aussie!
Ray: I have to admit to being amused by the antics of this bloke with his camera, Bill.

But in your athletic state you easily caught the. Up again Ray. Superb pictures which your mate risked his life to take.
Ray: I was quite impressed with this sequence, Chad...thinking, though that there is no way I would be laying down in the middle of the road.
From your comment to Philine I recognize the endorphins that were surging through you. What a great feeling.
Ray: Yes, you are right...I was loving it! The challenge, of course, is what comes later when extreme muscle fatigue kicks in.
The photographer seems to have made you the star of the day Ray.
Ray: As I said at the start, Brian, his interest in me presented me with a unique opportunity.
You certainly had the photographer in your sights!
Ray: As you can see, Tom, I was passing a younger guy...I didn't want to hide him from the photographer, so actually rode around the photographer on the wrong side of the road. My tactic diid not work, as the lens followed me.
a dedicated photographer, risking life and limb for this angle and almost symmetric view, Ray
Ray: This photographer was very energetic, Ayush, and not at all shy of getting in yer face or putting himself potentially in harms way!
You're a star, Ray! smile
Ray: Nar...just an old bloke enjoying a ride on a bike, Larry.
