I would hate to be anywhere near that...
Ray: It certainly engages the senses, Larry.
Superbes couleurs, j'imagine la chaleur à  cet endroit.
Ray: Oui ... beaucoup de chaleur dégagée, Martine.
Spectacular in sound and vision, Ray, did it smell good? smile
Ray: A strong smell of burning sugar, Frank.

Strewth - I wouldn't want to put my jungle palace near a thing like that!
Ray: We seem to have survived another year, after 4 days of burn-off nearby, Chris.

I'd be very concerned. Is there a fire service in the area? Probably a few chaps wearing Crocs and carrying buckets of water smile
Ray: There were two young men, wearing flip flops and carrying back-pack water extinguishers...what could possibly go wrong, heh! smile

You must ave been torn between trepidation and delight at the photo-opportunity
Ray: Yes...both emotions tripping over each other as this was happening, Lisl.
I hope your house has good fire insurance Ray
Ray: I don't have house insurance, Bill...insurance is not reliable in Thailand.

Oh, the fire looks fascinating and dangerous at the same time.
Ray: It is exactly like that, Philine.

They make a great sound like fire crackers, which they are really. Sugar makes a great fuel.
Looks and sounds a bit like fireworks but the feeling surely is not even similar.
I would hate that to be near my home. Roast snake for tea anyone smile
i like the fiery trails in the top shot, Ray. and the fire appears to be quite vigorous. i hope there is no risk of it spreading uncontrollably.

I have witnessed many sugar cane burn-offs in SA. It was always done in daytime. What I remembered most is that the guys involved in controlling the burn, walked around with one or two dead reed rats tied over the shoulder. The rats are bigger than a rabbit and a delicacy to these people. Of course the fire would convince the rats to exit the protection of the reeds and then ...
That's quite something!
