photoblog image Far East Thailand #03

Far East Thailand #03

We had intended to stay 2 nights in Phu Chong Na Yoi National Park, but unanimously agreed that the first day was far too exciting for our aging bodies...now we are on the road early, and heading towards Khong Chiam where the Mun and Mekong rivers merge.

En route we come to the enormous Sirindhorn Reservoir, which is about 50kilometres North/South and 18 kilometres East/West. The image shows an innovative, water-cooled restaurant on the reservoir.

The dog looks a bit tentative... Nice shot!
Ray: The dog is probably wondering if it is on the menu, Elizabeth, as dogs are eaten in Eastern Thailand, near the Laos border.

A wonderful view. I had to read it twice: "A water-cooled restaurant". It works for me.
Ray: Water-cooled restaurants are popular in Thailand, Astrid.
Give me shade from the sun, Ray, and I'm a happy camper...as clearly you were as well.
Ray: We didn't eat at this restaurant, Ginnie, but would have been grateful for the cooling facilities if we had.

A water cooled restaurant heh. Did you stop off for a four course lunch?
Ray: We missed breakfast this morning, so stopped as soon as we found a restaurant that looked ok...in this case it was perhaps 1 km from where I made this image.

We did eat an ice-cream here, though.

Oh very good. I see one of the very fresh menu items on the right cooling its feet, too.
Ray: Ha Ha

Don't make jokes about this, Alan...dogs are eaten in Eastern Thailand and in Laos... smile
Quel bel endroit ...surprenant !!
Merci pour ce partage
Ray: Oui ... Je trouvais ça très accueillant, Claudine ... J'aurais été content de manger ici sauf que nous avions déjà mangé dans un restaurant à seulement 1 kilomètre d'ici.

Not sure I would wish to be a waiter here Ray, especially perhaps the wine waiter. I could have sworn that this was the sea.
Ray: It is a very big reservoir, Chad.

I expect the waiters are quite happy to keep cool by sloshing about in the water as they deliver the food and the cold beer.
How unusual, if the tides in you could catch your own fish.
Ray: A surprisingly common thing in Thailand, Brian...very pleasant!
How do you actually get to it?
Ray: It is close to the East bank of the reservoir, Bill, so you can either drive down to waters edge and wade out to you shade-house, or if you are on the West bank you can drive down to waters edge and swim 18 kilometres across to your shade-house.

i like the canine, basically just doing canine stuff, Ray.
Ray: I was keen to have the dog in the fore-water, Ayush.
and a dog looking for fish!
Ray: I have seen dogs fishing in the shallows at ponds in the village, Tom.
I've been in plenty of swim up bars but not ever a restaurant.
Ray: There are many restaurants like this in Thailand, Mary.
