Ascending

The long climb to the lip of the volcanoe.

There are two extinct volcanoes within a short drive from my house...one has been largely destroyed by exploitation for road metal, but the other is intact and is a pleasant place to visit. There were locals gatherin mushrooms from the gungle on the slopes, and some had brimind baskets of them.

Seems a long way up for a dead volcano... the best kind I guess...
Ray: The cone is mostly intact, Larry, and is covered in jungle growing on pumice.

Superbe escalier mais il faut être courageux pour le monter.
Ray: Cela vous donne un bon entraînement aérobique lorsque vous montez pour la vue, Martine.

Now this would be fun coming down on a mountain bike. Good aerobic activity for running up if you could clear the stairs of those idling tourists.
Ray: I have walked up it a couple of times recently, Alan, and can confirm that the heart gets a good workout.

Looks like a stairway to heaven, or Valhalla, or a mountain retreat for retired gents with sophisticated tastes..
Ray: There is a large statue of Buddha at the top, and a long view of the nearby city, Chris.

What a staircase - yes, Chris might be right!
Ray: I especially like the think jungle on both sides of the staircase, Philine.
Bonjour Ray
En voilà  une belle grimpette ...oups...
Bravo pour la photo
Bonne journée
Ray: Oui, une ascension agréable et vigoureuse, que j'ai appréciée.
Led Zeppelin come to mind
Ray: Could be Heaven up there in the trees, I suppose, Bill.

Great shot Ray, it looks like a moving staircase.
Ray: Some of the tourists were struggling, Chad, and would probably prefer it was a powered stairway.

those snarling serpents do not seem to put people off, Ray. but i like the view very much.
Ray: The Naga [River Serpents] are generally betieved to be benign, Ayush.
That is quite steep isn't it. It is more crowded than the places you usually take us in your nearby jungles.
Ray: This is a popular tourist site, Mary, and is within the precincts of the quite large Buriram City. The other places are remote, and not well known to most Thais.
I bet it's worth the trek up the steep stairs for the view at the top.
Ray: Yes...the rewards certainly make it worth the effort, Brian.

In any case, I like the challenge [of passing everyone].
The nearest Volcano cone to us is now fenced off unfortunately. This one has a very ornate staircase.
Ray: Remember your youth, Frank...fences are for breaching! smile

There's a lady who's sure
All that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven
When she gets there she knows
If the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for
Oh oh oh oh and she's buying a stairway to heaven

Led Zeppelin
Ray: I few of us are showing our age today, Louis.
I like that song.
Looks like quite a climb.
Ray: It is high enough to get the heart pumping, Tom.
