photoblog image The power of String

The power of String

I have observed that, in up-country Thailand, simple cotten string plays an important role in most rituals.

Here I am, wearing string on both wrists and ankles, following a ritual in which a female Sharman from the village has led several other women including Na in rejuvenating my soul after they visited the scene of my recent, nearly fatal, accident.

I am sure this riutual will help and rejunivate you - the English and French orthography is already very good and correct!
Ray: You are very encouraging Philine.

I am improving, put my SC activities take about 4 times longer than previously...it is hard work!

I thought at first from the title and the image that Big Ging was going to be playing with the string and perhaps using his sharp claws around your ankle. The ritual;from the village ladies seem to be working smile No doubt the money will go towards your beer fund.
Ray: Sadly, Alan, beer is off the menu for at least one year! :{

Brilliant!

This is an old trick, but it might just work.

Actually it looks as if it has..
Ray: In any case, Chris, it is important that the Village Ladies feel they are doing something to help.
It is clearly working Ray as your text is error free
Ray: SC is presently very hard work for me, Bill, as I must check through my writing about 6 times to find all the mistakes.

Oh sorry, my mistakes: ritual, rejuvenate!
Ray: smile
You'll never know if it works unless you try it, and it also goes to show how the village people feel very strongly for you.
Ray: Most of the village people have been very friendly to me, Brian, and my School Teaching adventures have assisted with this.

I was delighted my the attention I received from the Women, despite my skepticism about anything that has religious of occult underpinnings.
Ray: In this part of Thailand the religious/belief systems are a mix of Buddhism, Totomism, Vudu and other things, Sheila, and string plays a pole in all these things.

I am not a follower of any religious beliefs, but I am a member of a community in which beliefs are believed and practised. So...I did not hesitate when Na asked me if I would participate in this ritual which is important to the community.
you're not that sexy Ray....petersmile
Ray: You might be right, Peter.
puss appears to be uninterested!
Ray: Ginger Tom seemed to want to be involved, Tom.
I like the idea of adding a bit of money to help you in some way too. The string can later become a play toy for the cats.
Ray: I was touched by the community's concern for me, Mary.

A couple of days ago Na and I were eating at a noodle restaurant at Prasat city, about 22km from our home...the meal was interrupted my a 40 year old man who approached, placed one hand on my shoulder and another on my elbow, and, with tears in his eyes, told Na he knew me from seeing me riding my bike around the area for the last several years, but heard I had been killer in an accident...he was delighted to find me still alive, and happy to hear I was riding again.
