Traveller

This is a Thai Land Crab. It lives in the soil rather than in the ponbs.

It is much sought after, by humans and birds, as a food source, but seems to be a surviver. A reason for this might be its aggresive nature, and its willingness to deploy its fearsome weaponry, as shown in the second image which I shot after touching this  individual I found ambling across the grass near our house.

Il ressemble beaucoup aux crabes que l'on trouve dans la mer.
Ray: C'est 300fm de la mer, Martine.
Crabs are interesting animals! You've captured him beautifully - I love his bright colors - and his feistiness!

I didn't realise you could get crabs inland. How big do they grow?
Ray: Oh, yes!

These are about one handful, Lisl.
I was wondering the same as Lisl...about how big these grow, Ray. Free food, then, right?!
Ray: They are about one handful, Ginnie...and, yes...free food!

I've never heard of land crabs before. He does not look too pleased the you touched it without an invitation.
Ray: These are belligerent critters, Alan, and that keeps them alive.

If they get you with their claw, then you will not forget the pain of it any time soon.
he is not giving way one inch, Ray! and it seems he gave you a rude gesture in the second shot grin
Ray: He stoop his ground, Ayush, and it was he who had to move.

In that bottom shot, the crab is imitating your pressing of the shutter button.

Oh, this crab looks like an aggressive beast.
Ray: This Crab's life depends on its ability to defend itself, Philine, and it is very good at surviving.
I guess you must always look down - or wear boots - when crossing a lawn.
Ray: Ha Ha

There re numerous reasons for watching where you are walking on the grass, Mary..one is that we have many dogs! smile Bit...you a right...there may also be an unpleasant surprise if one of these critters fastened on your toe.
I never knew thase existed, a fine creature and two very good photos.
Ray: They are wonderful creatures, Brian.
Have you ever eaten a land crab, Ray? Its outside appearance doesn't look that appetizing.
Ray: I have a serious allergy to crustaceans, Beverly, so cannot advise on taste, except to say they are much enjoyed by the family.
Those pincers could give you quite a nip.
Ray: I lost some blood the first time I had an argument with one of these critters,Tom.
i can see why he is a survivor Ray... two great shots....petersmile
Ray: Yes...all about attitude, Peter.
