He's a beautiful golden orange and that's quite a macro. You da king!
Ray: And, you are too kind, Mary.
Great macro Ray,excellent
Ray: Thanks, Vintage. I am pleased you like it.
By the looks of it, Ray, he's already had a meal and looks like he's moving to greener pastures.
Ray: I think the bigger, swollen, well-fed looking ones are the females, Ginnie...they seem to be the ones at the front when two of them play trains...the boys are rather sorry-looking specimens by comparison.
Fabulous, as always Ray. Wonderful detail and colour
Ray: Thanks, Paul. They are small, but very attractive, beetles.
Looks like it ate the appetizer already. It probably needs a mid-meal boost from a cup of coffee. Good arrangement of picture elements.
Ray: Thanks, Martin. I try to get a story in the frame with the insects, but sometimes they don't want to play ball.
Spectacular capture.
Ray: You are very kind, Zohre.
*sigh* so sharp, so good, such a great colours, FABULOUS, again a likey to me, thanks Ray, you show me that I have to learn a lot....but that it the fun of SC
Ray: Thanks, Astrid.
Yes...I learn a lot from the SC community, for sure.
Fantastic macro. Great work Ray
Ray: Thanks, Stan. I am glad you like it. This series is from my first [very short] outing with 100mm macro leans and tripod.
I like the way it's top antennae is sharp against the distant background. Is it a big bug?
Ray: Small, Nigel...a bit under 1cm nose to tail.
Superb macro Ray. It seems that this beetle just enjoyed the banquet and is heading for a good siesta now!
Ray: Thanks, Richard.
I am pretty sure it's a female, and think she is sending out "come and play" signals for the boys.
An impressive pic, Ginnie is right, the well equipped beetle has already left its traces... Maria Sibylla Merian would have appreciated you again! She was especially interested in the symbiosis of insects and foodplants.
Ray: Thank you, Philine.
I have noticed that one of the favoured foods of this species is the petals of the pumpkin flower.
Spectacular macro. What a beautiful little bug!
Ray: Thank you, Marcie.
Very pretty, but very small.
Great shot - to this day I don't know what they are called, but I know they like to cut holes on leaves.
Ray: I don't know what they are called either, Louis, but I do know they are voracious eaters.
The natural History purists wold complain that one of the antennae is out of focus. Big fat hairy deal I say. This is a lovely picture!
Ray: I am glad you like it, Bill.
It ain't easy getting both antennae in focus...usually working with a narrow DoF, and the damn bugs keep waving those thing about. [grin] |
