photoblog image Swallow, resting

Swallow, resting

Swallow just at the point of landing for a rest on a dry lotus flower stem in the swamp of Bueng Boraphet, Thailand. I thought I was rather clever to get the head and feet in focus while the rest of the bird is still in motion...you might more accurately name this a "fluke"...

Last in this series but, if you want to see more, there is a
gallery of 50 shots from this excursion...

Funny how flukes happen more to those with skill, great shot and brilliant timing Ray
Ray: Too kind, Zed. Thank you.

If there's anything you are, Ray, it is definitely CLEVER. I could have told you that a long time ago!
Ray: [big smile]
Thank you, Ginnie. I was rather happy with this shot.

Super photo Ray you are very clever.I dont use the word fluke mine is accidental
Ray: Thanks, Vintage. Every time I press the shutter, I am hoping for a good outcome...but it is still a rare enough event for me to grin a lot when I get one like this.
You've captured art provided by mother nature smile Fantastic shot!
Ray: Thank you, Rafael. Nature does its best to make beautiful opportunities for photographers.
Your timing is really spot on. The best part really is the motion blur on the wings! These tiny birds really flap at a crazy speed - 1/500s shutter and it's still blurred! Prefer it blurred though, if it were static the impact would be lost.
Ray: Thanks, Duane...I do like the message coming from those wings.
The only decent pictures I get are flukestongue This is a great fluke Ray.
Ray: Get outta here, Bill.
I have seen stuff on your photoblog that shows how carefully you have prepared, and have got exactly what you intended.

...either that or they are very deliberate-looking flukes.
Talking about beeing on the right place at the right time ! Great shot Ray!
Ray: Thanks, Ferdi.

I was in the right spot because Rob [ http://lecter.shutterchance,com ] took me there, but I do accept a little credit for pressing the shutter button at the right time. [grin]
Muy buena...
Ray: Thank you, Emillamola.
Superb Ray. Great timing again!
What a pleasure to visit your gallery!
Ray: Thanks, Richard. I am glad you peeked at the gallery.

Well captured, Ray! We just need a more mysterious title for it. Maybe Mind over Matter, because it has clearly broken that stick in half?
Ray: [grin]
Very muscular birds, these swallows.
A good shot to finish the series Ray, I have just looked at your "Bangkok Big Sky" on your blog, that is a great iamge as well.
Ray: Thanks, Brian.
There is a whole gallery of Bangkok sky panoramas [ http://www.all-my-world.com/Raytiddlyhost/panogallery.html#MonsoonSky ] on the website...all shot from my livingroom balcony.

"Fluke" is good smile
Ray: Thanks, Ellie. I was pleased.
Great expression of the bird !
Ray: This bird landed barely 2 metres from where I was poised with camera already fitted with long lens...lighting was good...I mad a few good shots.
Yay! Awesome capture smile
Ray: Thank you, Pamela.
I am glad you like this shot.
