Fat & Happy! That's such beautiful wood!
Ray: Teak is beautiful wood.
I shot this in the display room of a wood carving place where we were commissioning a couple of items of hand-carved teak furniture...I might feature that furniture soon, Elizabeth.
He is one cool Buddha Ray.... the teak sculpture brings out such detail in Him....i like this much more than all of the golden statues that i have seen....petersmile
Ray: This is a Chinese style Laughing Buddha, Peter...always fat and happy. The bronze and gold icons that you have seen are probably Thai, Laos, Cambodian, Viet or Burmese...they tend to depict a thinner character in either a serene mood or a serious one. I have seen a few Starving Buddha icons as well...his rib cage is prominent...and it represents him after he has been meditating for months under the Sara tree,
Happy and well fed. Most impressive carving, what sort of size was it ?
Ray: It is a fine carving, as all are at this wood carving centre. We commissioned a couple of pieces of carved teak furniture here, and are very happy with the result.

Although seated, this piece is about 2 metres tall.

Now who does this remind me of??
Ray: Is that the remnants of a bacon buttie stuck in his teeth?
ce bouddah est bien grassouillet
passe d'agréables moments et à bientôt
Ray: Merci l'angevine.
Lovely bit of carving isn't it.
Ray: Teak is excellent wood for carving, Brian, and the artists at this workshop are very skilled. I have some furniture from this place, and will see if I can take a few good pics and show it off.
One of the laughing variety smile
Ray: A popular Chinese style icon, Tom.
nice woodwork, great skill in executing this carving
