Baya Weaver

Each year, around April, the noisy, social Baya Weavers create a community of elaborate woven-grass nests in a large tree not far from our house.

This is the male...he does all the work, frantically trying the impress his gal. He pulls strips of green grass leaves from plants and creates this masterpiece over a period of 2-3weeks.

Here is a nest in an early stage of construction:

And, here is the Gal...supervising construction...

What a fabulous thing he has created. I'm not sure Mrs Baya Weaver is too impressed - yet..
Ray: She is watching closely, and will insist on perfection, Chris.

That is amazing! I couldn't even do anything like that with my hands never mind just justing a beak. No doubt Mrs Baya is offering advice - or nagging more likely.
Ray: Mrs Baya is quite noisy, Alan, and I think it is a mix of encouragement and criticism she is articulating.
Que c'est beau ..le nid mais aussi la demoiselle qui regarde..très belles photos , merci beaucoup
Ray: Ce sont des oiseaux merveilleux, Claudine.

Oh, I am in awe - what a wonderful observation and photograph! You are the master in animal photography!
Ray: These birds make wonderful neighbours, Philine, and they don't mind me observing their antics.
The birds are really beautiful and their home is one of the nicest in the neighbourhood, I'm sure.
Ray: Oh yes! These are my favourite neighbours, Mary, even though they are noisy.
A fine trio of shots Ray, the explanation says all.
Ray: It is great fun observing the interaction between male and female during this phase of their relationship, Brian.
