A Weed
Eye-catching, but miniature, flower stem of a common roadside weed that thrives in the hottest season in up-country Thailand.

Na deflated me a little when I asked her to comment on this image...
"Bah... useless thing...buffalo cannot eat...people cannot eat...and flower smells bad."

I am content, just to look and to try to capture its beauty.

[It is an education, though, to discover the legacy of a subsistence childhood where the extreme poverty of the rice-farming community was such that everything can be judged in terms of its potential to provide sustenance, or some other small pleasure.]
