Common Hoopoe
The Common Hoopoe is one of my favourite birds.

It has a deep, distinctive call...."Hoop-Oh"...which I presume is the source of its name.

It digs vigorously in the hard soil, with its long sharp beak, for grubs and worms. It is rather shy, and will not tolerate humans close by. When startled, the bird's beautiful head-crest stands up.

It is a very hot day, which this bird is dealing with by drooping its wings, and by panting through its opened beak.
