We ride into the Cambodia Army Camp at the bottom of the escarpment, and find we have a 1km walk up a steep concrete road to Ta Meung, a Khmer Antiguity that is right on the border such that its ownership is in dispute. Ta Meung is quite close to my House in Thailand, and I have visited it many times, but I have never arrived at it from the Cambodia side.
In the jungle, near the ruins, there are some lovely, old, huge trees with beautiful butress roots.
Finally, we break through the jungle, and there is the familiar set of anchient literite steps leading up to the ruins. When I climb to the top I am met by Thai Soldiers rearing very bemused expressions...I have walked across the border, but no-one thinks I need to be shot.
