photoblog image Australia #11

Australia #11

I made this shot from Son Ben's house yard...his back boundry is a river which attracts much wildlife.

Australia's Swans are black.

This pair are searching for a nest site where their chicks (signets) will have protection from foxes.

Ray: A few days ago we rode our bicycles past a small lake that was hosting about 400 of these magnificent birds...I was gobsmacked...

Ils sont très beaux. Chez moi, ils sont rares. Nous en voyons quelques fois.
What a place to live, Ray! Black swans are rare here in the Netherlands but we do see them once in a blue moon. It would seem strange to see them as the norm.
Ray: White Swans are rare in Australia, Ginnie.

There is a pair of black swans on one of local rivers but the rest are white. Let hope they raise a broad successfully.
Ray: Swams are a protected species in Australia, but they are not endangered, Alan.
I had the opportunity to watch Aus. black swans from a blind for several hours. Like geese, they have one member on guard when the others are eating. The guards change every once in a while. It was a wonderful experience.
Ray: I love Swans...black or white...Mary, and enjoy watching them doing their thing.
Well I never, I assumed you had white swans just like we do.
Ray: It is fascinating, Brian.
There are black swans in Dawlish which were a gift from a former citizen in the town who went to live in New Zealand I think it was back in the 19th century. The descendants are still there
Ray: What an interestinh story, Bill.
This reminds me so much of the black swan duo we saw in Rhode Island, Ray. Lovely shot of these two!
Ray: They are lovely, elegant birds, Beverly, and I love being able to see them from the garden.

They seem to have their feathers ruffled. You must have sighed like a hungry fox.
Ray: Those feathers act as small sales that assist them to float down-wind, Louis.
Great shot of these lovely birds.
Ray: Thank you, tom.
they are beautiful black swans Ray... Ben is lucky to be able to see the wildlife from his back yard....petersmile
Ray: Ben has a wonderful house-yard for encounters with birds, Peter...I will show some of what I have found during the next few weeks.
