photoblog image Australia #14

Australia #14

We came apon this Black Shouldered Kyte, hovering near the road, and it was not detured when we stoffed to admire it and make a few shots.

It is a small but most elegant Raptor.

I love this shot, Ray! Beautiful!
Ray: I think you can imagine my delight at observing this lovely wild animal hoverink close by, Elizabeth.
Très joli, j'aime la position.
Well done, Ray. Just spread your wings and fly!
Ray: Oh...if only I could!

Brilliant, especially the tail feathers! I like the way it fills the frame. It seems focused on something?
Ray: It has spotted a mouse or something like that and is hovering above it and preparing for a diving attack on it.
Another fine capture Ray.
Ray: I am pleased you think so, Brian.
A fine shot Ray. There is a watercolour quality to this
Ray: I did quite a lot of PP stuff to reveal some details of the bird, Bill.
He was probably hovering over a mouse or vole. Our small raptors do that over fields and it is fascinating to watch. Their eye sight is phenomenal.
Ray: I love watching Raptors when they hover, Mary.
Wonderful image, Ray - excellent shot!
Ray: You are very encouraging, Tom...thank you.

Once they are locked on to prey, they are not easily deterred. We have these birds as well and I have a number of hovering shots.

They are actually easier to photograph than, for instance, crows. 99% of the time, a crow will be off when you stop a car and 100% when you approach on foot.
Ray: Thank you, Louis. I did not know this beautiful bird was so wide spread. And...I agree with you remarks about Krows.
