photoblog image Big!

Big!

The giant turtle is beginning to have a powerful presence by the highway about 12km from our house. The roofing team, on the shell, will allow you to get an impression of the size of this monster.

Work has also commenced on the gut of the beast, but there are still few hints of the intended purpose of this construction.

Impressionnante construction.
Ray: Je ne peux toujours pas deviner le but de ce bâtiment si inhabituel, Martine.
it looks like it could be a multi purpose exhibition cum performance venue, Ray.
Ray: That idea passed through my mind but did not stick, Ayush...I think the structure is too fare away from a city to serve that purpose.
Whatever, Ray, its going to be impressive.
Ray: It is just 25 minutes by bicycle from our house, Frank, so I will have to add it to my tours.
That's just amazing!!
Ray: It certainly invokes saggy jaw, Elizabeth.
Wouldn't it be something if it ends up being "all show and no go," Ray!
Ray: I think that is unlikely, Ginnie, but stranger things have happened.

And no one knows what it's going to be!!!

Intriguing but this wouldn't happen in the UK..
Ray: I think it will become clearer with the next year, Chris.

This is just amazing, Ray....This looks almost the seize maybe bigger of the dome that I captured a few weeks ago. Do you have a link to this building? And I might think they know you already?
Ray: There is no public information about this structure, Astrid. I would say it is a similar size as a football stadium, but that is clearly not its intended use.
Peut etre comme en France , à  Nantes exactement avec https://www.lesmachines-nantes.fr
En tous les cas cette construction est imposante !
Ray: La construction est en cours depuis plus de 2 ans, Claudime, et je pense qu’il reste au moins un an.

It looks great and I like the design on the shell. I think it is going to be an indoor shopping mall.
Ray: Yes...one species of Thai Turtle has a shell pattern quite like this, Chad.

That's some structure. Held up with bits of metal, too, rather than bamboo and other bits of old stick normally used.
Ray: There is a huge steel frame under the shell, Alan. Some temporary use was made of bamboo scaffolding.

Your area is turning into a tourist trap.
Ray: Ha Ha

Funny thing is there are no tourists to trap here, Richard.

Bound to become the world's biggest restaurant, specialising in turtle soup.
Ray: Ha Ha
Turtles are sacred animals in Thailand, so are rarely eaten. Otherwise, bonus points for causing me to laugh out loud, Louis.
Taking your reply to Louis in mind perhaps it could be some sort of building in which worship takes place.
Ray: I have wondered about this, too, Brian. At this moment I am thinking it is more likely to be an odd sort of market-place, but your suggestion is my second choice.
I don't have a clue what it is going to be but I hope we get to find out!
Ray: I shall certainly keep you posted on this mystery, Bill.
the men on the roof are tiny objects they surely give scale to it's size Ray...
this could be what Joni Mitchell sang - Big Yellow Taxi...

"pave parricide put up a parking lot"

....petersmile
Ray: Oh...I love that idea, Peter! smile
A turtle? Why???
Ray: Yes and Good question. I would like to think it is a library [as turtles are believed in Eastern culture to carry all knowledge in their shell] but I doubt it, Tom.
It really has developed. I would like the turtle covering me during the rains.
Ray: I stop in for a closer look about once a week, Mary, and the workers have got to recognizing me now.
