photoblog image On The Road

On The Road

On the road to Prasat LaLomTom, the closest Khmer Ruin to our House...we have changed to my 4X4 vehicle, and now I am driving. There is a river ford on the track, but it is not flooded.

Friend Koen made these shots, as I was driving.

Une route un peu chaotique.
Ray: Les routes de campagne en Thaïlande peuvent être un peu comme ça, Martine.
i do not imagine you have done this on your bicycle, Ray. i am sure the two on the moped would consider this a safe route (at least for the period there are no floods).
Ray: On yes...I have made this trip several times on bicycle, Ayush...a pleasant ride.

I definitely would not wish to be driving my saloon here.
Ray: 4X4 is betting for this, Chad...even with Crazy Ray driving! smile
Glad it's your car and you driving, Ray, than ours and me! So glad Koen was there to take the photos.
Ray: We share all our images at the end of each outing, Ginnie.

I looked in your archives and you have visited more than once. It looks like a fascinating place to visit. Did Koen visit the place before.

Ray: This was the first visit by Koen and Tim, Astrid.

I am admiring the giant spillway to defend the place from flash flooding..
Ray: It is quite unusual as it has a narrow bridge for motorcycles, Bicycles and pedestrians, Chris, but cars must splash through our wait a day for the water level to drop.

This could be fun with a raging torrent. I have to say that I could not cope with those dangly things hanging from your interior mirror.
Ray: I have driver through with about 25cm of water, once, Alan.

Those dangley things ensure the safely of all in my car, and I have not lost anyone in 300,000 km...strong jujubs, eh!
Hum...une route pas facile surement pour se deplacer !
Ray: Les petites routes en Thaïlande peuvent être difficiles, Claudine.
I see you have the steering wheel on the correct side in Thailand
Ray: Yes...Thailand is civilized, Bill! smile
Not for the first time Bill has pinched my comment!! Two very good shots, congratulate Koen.
Ray: I am pleased you like them, Brian.
Koen did a great job Ray... he caught your eyes in the mirror and the motion of the bikers... that river ford doesn't look too safe to cross....petersmile
Ray: KK has an artist's eye, Peter.

Tells the story!
Ray: Yes...I was pleased to be able to borrow these images from Koen.
Always reassuring to have 4 wheels under traction when required
Ray: Yes...it does give one greater confidence, Martin.
Wouldn't this set up wash you away during heavy rain?
Ray: There are times where it is impassable by car, Mary.
