Prasat LaLomTom #1

This 1000 years old Khmer Ruin is about 10km from our House. There is not a lot left standing, but I find it a very peaceful place, and occasionally cycle to it. I have not brought friends Tim and Koen here before.

Although it is nearly gone, Martine, I still like to visit this site to sit quietly and imagine what life might have been like at this place 1000 years ago.

I can imagine that being peaceful Ray, ruins can be quite meditative, especially without crowds.
Ray: Yes...yes...I am with you on this claim, Chad.

Looks like it was a big thing in its heyday Ray
Ray: A walled area containing 3 or 4 buildings, Chris, and using sandstone, laterite and fired clay bricks.

It's always good to introduce friends to new finds. There's a lot of history here.
Ray: Yes...Yes...I share your views, Alan.
It is clear from the bottom picture that they were very fine stonemasons Ray
Ray: I expect there were some elaborately carved limestone lintels, which have been stolen or moved to a museum for safekeeping, Bill. This site is entirely open, so a visitor could remove anything they could lift.

Certainly a place to contemplate the meaning and value of life.
Ray: Yes...I sometimes ride my bicycle to this place for just that reason, Richard.
Un lieu de repos assez agreable pour s'y ressourcer
Ray: J'aime faire du vélo jusqu'à cet endroit, puis juste passer une heure à méditer, Claudine ... c'est presque complètement inconnu.

I like to ride my bicycle to this place, and then just spend an hour in meditation, Claudine...it is almost completely unknown.
I'm surprised that after 1000 years anything remains of this Khmer Ruin, Ray. Must have been a substantial structure.
Ray: There are many sites within a 1 hour drive of our house, Beverly...some are still in quite good condition, but this one is showing its age!
Isn't it sad to see ruins like this, not just in Thailand but elsewhere that's old as well.
Ray: Sadness is not an emotion I associate with visits to these sites, Brian.
They were pretty handt 1000 years back, I wonder what sort of tools they had.
Ray: That is a good question, Martin. Most tools would be wood or bone, but there might be some of bronze and possibly iron as well.
good presentation Ray... the first one with the rebuilt wall left of the tree is great and the second one has great stories to tell....petersmile
Ray: There has been no rebuilding at this site, Peter...not even much excavations for artifacts so far as I can tell. A plaque has been erected to provide a little information, and some local monks occasionally visit and clean up the grass and weed when they perform a Buddhist ritual.
I think I remember at least two trips here in the past on Ray's Thailand Tours. I find it a wonderful stop.
Ray: Yes...I have taken SC buddies here a couple of times, Mary.
Thanks again Ray, for showing us this neat temple ruins!
Ray: My pleasure, KK. We are slowely getting to all these places!
