Sunbird

This rather beautiful Black-throated Sunbird has taken a liking to a flowering shrub not far from out front door...needless to say, I am not unhappy about this turn of events!

It certainly is a beauty Ray.
Ray: It is sometimes called "Asian Hummingbird" because it can hover while feeding, and it is very small [but not as small as a real Hummingbird].

It’s not fair that you have such colour and vibrancy smacking you in your face all the time.
Ray: We have at least 3 species of Sunbird visitors, Richard, but this one is the most colorful.

I admire the acrobatic gestures of this bird with the beautiful name.
Ray: It is very entertaining to watch in the shrub, Philine.

What a terrific thing to view in your garden..
Ray: I sat on the front steps to make these shots, Chris...very civilized.
What a wonderful bird to have in your garden Ray
Ray: Indeed it is true, Bill.
Quel magnifique oiseau, j'aime ses couleurs.
Ray: Oui, belle et amusante à regarder car elle se nourrit de nectar dans le jardin.

It looks spoilt for choice with all the blooms.
Ray: It has to compete with bees and wasps and ants as this is a most popular shrub, Alan.
Beautiful flowers and a very fine little bird.
Ray: I am hoping the bird will nest in our garden, like a different species of Surnbird did last year.
That beautiful iridescent purple is so intense! Beautiful! Unlike anything we have here.
Ray: Sunbirds are tiny by beautiful creatures, Mary, and I have found 3 species in our garden.
Great photo opportunities!
Ray: I took these with a long lens while sitting on the front steps, Tom.
Such a tiny bird!
Ray: Small, but beautiful, KK.
