showing off its intact feathers, Ray.
Ray: With wings up this one is just an unremarkable brown butterfly...but, then, this!
Beautiful colours Ray.
Ray: I believe this is a quite unusual species, Frank, and I was gobsmacked when it dropped its plain brown wings to reveal this!
Oooh she's a stunner!
Ray: Yes...a stunner, Elizabeth.

All those false eye markings!
Ray: The false eyes are common, but not in red, Chris.
I can see why it grabbed your attention, Ray!
Ray: Another one for my Garden Butterflies book, Ginnie.

A new one for you, Ray, by the sound of it. Do you have a good butterfly field guide?
Ray: I use an on-line guide, Lisl, and it is usually quite good but it does not have this beauty.
A beauty indeed Ray. I love the "eyes" on the wings
Ray: There are many butterflies in Thailand that use this ruse, Bill.
Qu'il est beau ce papilon , original ce bleu sur ce bout d'ailes
Ray: J'ai trouvé les yeux rouges la caractéristique la plus inhabituelle, Claudine.

Dark and mysterious Ray.
Ray: A pleasant surprise for me, Chad.
Wow is my comment. I don't these fellows visit Canada.
Ray: Just another drab brown butterfly...until it opened its wings! It is the first I have seen, Mary.
Nice photo !
Ray: Thank you, Roland. I think the butterfly made this shot easy. smile
A bit of a mystery, then?
Ray: Yes...I might have to seek help with this.
Stunning indeed, never saw it before either.
Ray: I am getting quite a collection of butterfly images now, KK.
