photoblog image City Life

City Life

We lived in a condominium in one of these towers for more than 10 years, and were very content with our Quality Of Life here.

I made this shot from the bedroom of a Boutique Hotel where we stayed for one night on a recent lightening visit to Bangkok to finalise arrangements with new [hopefully] long-term tenants in the Condo we still own.

A mass of humanity there.... I'm so glad you were happy when you lived there!
Ray: Wonderful street food 2 minutes from our front door...swimming pool 10 seconds from our front door...gym, badminton courts, extensive garden, respectful multinational neighbours, etc, etc... smile

I can see from your comment to Elizabeth what a fine quality of life it offered you, Ray
Ray: Yes...and it has been easy to attract long-term tenants, Lisl.

I suspect, looking at the image, there's quite a lot of room inside these places. Could you keep pets back in those days?
Ray: We had 4 cats and quite a few hamsters in those days, Chris, and brought them with us when we moved up-country...officially, pets were not permitted. Our condo was 110 square metres, and quite cleverly laid out.
It looks like a place on the beachfront of many a fine city around the world, Ray. I can imagine how posh it must have been for you.
Ray: It is not at all posh here, Ginnie, and there are no tourists in this part of the city...most of the tenants are middle class Thai families, but there are also many families from other countries.
Impressionnant ce batiment !
Cela fait du monde ..
Ray: C'est une excellente partie de Bangkok, qui est une ville immense et très orientale, Claudine.

I know for sure that your tenants will be very happy here. I can tell the way you replied to Elizabeth. It sounds like an oases in the crowded city, Ray.
Ray: It is that, Astrid, and you probably recall the hundreds of wildlife shots I showed from what I found in the 3rd flour garden.
Cela fait beaucoup de monde.
Ray: Bangkok est une très grande ville, Martine.

I'm sure the condos are very nice but it's all too crowded for em.. and I live near a city centre, It's good that you have a rental income from the the condo.
Ray: Bangkok is a unique and wonderful city, Alan, despite being enormous and crowded. I found it to be surprizingley liveable.

The blocks all look very smart and expensive.
Ray: They are smart, and well maintained, Chad but would all rate as being firmly in the middle of the range in terms of costs of cost to purchase or rent.
I feel we all lived there with you and now share your countryside life.
Ray: Thank you, Mary. Yours is a most gratifying comment to me, as my aim with this blog is mainly to show my ex-pat perception of life in this most interesting and wonderful country of Thailand.

I would imagine that there is much anonymity, but I read that you were content with your life there - what a contrast to your present village and house there!
Ray: We have a very different life style now, Philine, but did find our life in this heavily populated part of Bangkok very pleasant.
Even with the delights of the gardens I could not live here!
Ray: Really! I am a small village sort of person, Bill, but adapted very quickly to living in this heavily populated area of Bangkok.
Like BNill I would find it difficult to live here althought hey do seem to have a lot of character.
Ray: I found it memorable in many positive ways, Brian.
That's an awful lot of people!
Ray: Certainly a lot of people, Tom, but more awsome than awful! smile
