A short first afternoon ride of only about 20km gets us to the large provincial town of Anlong Veng which, as you see, has not waisted a lot of its budget on road paving. Travel here must be a bit of a challenge in the wet seasen, but we, fortunately, are traveling at the height of the dry seasen and so just get a bit of red dust.
This town has a somewhat infamous past, as it was where Pol Pot [of Khmer Rouge infamy] had his headquarters during that appaling few years in the 1970's...more on this tomorrow.
We quickly find a Guest House, claim a room [at cost around US$4 each, with fan and walm shower] and install our bags, and head off on bicycles to explore the town.
