Wow, you caught him (her?) in the act!
Ray: This was not a first attempt, KK. smile
Joli mouvement des ailes.
Ray: Oui ... j'ai été ravi de faire saigner l'aile, Martine.
Terrific shots & video! They at least hold better position for us photogs than bees... smile
Ray: I am able to predict there a bee is boing, as it travels in strait lines. These critters hover for a fraction of a second then dart unpredictably, so there is not time to find them and focus before they more again. I find Bees easier to catch in flight, Elizabeth.

Such a treat for a February morning here. I actually saw a Bumble Bee yesterday, but insects are still generally months away
Ray: I have a few more insects coming up, Lisl.
I loved the moments in the video, Ray, when he/she was "spot on." YAY for all the hovering insects that keep our Mother Earth alive!
Ray: Hover Flies are very important for Plants, Ginnie, and they are very handsome as well.

Excellent stuff!
Ray: I have been after these critters for quite a while, Chris, and have developed quite a liking of them.
Quelle belle série !!
Merci
Ray: Merci, Claudine.

Like the action in this.
Ray: Thank you, Alan...I liked that also.
Put on continuous mode, point camera, press shutter and hope the autofocus is up to the job grin
Ray: Ha Ha.

I do not shoot continuous, Bill, and mostly prefer Manual focus. But it might give a good outcome!

It’s buzz is worse than it’s bite.
Ray: These are silent in flight, Chad, and I don't think they bite the landlord. smile

A great result from a great challenge
Ray: Ha Ha

Yes...I did treat it as a challenge, Richard.
I think you did a great job. I never use a tripod but have one.
Ray: I have a fine tripod that never leaves the cupboard in which it is stored, too, Care.
you did good Ray... i'm sure that it was difficult to get these two detailed macros of the hoverFly in flight... love your video as well....petersmile
Ray: Thank you, Peter. I have made numerous attempts to make these shots in the past 3 years.
