Close Encounters in the Garden 9

This is the biggest of the Wasps that spend time in our Garden. They are not aggresive except when defending their nest, so we usually remove any nests we find. Twice I have had one get caught in my helmet when I am cycling...both times have ended with a fainful sting to the scalp!

Magnifique Ray !!
Merci pour ces détails
Ray: Ce sont les insectes les plus impressionnants, Claudine.
That is quite an insect! I can't imagine it has many predators!
Ray: Some birds are equiped to hunt them, Bill...otherwise, not much!

That’s a mean looking waspy Ray.
Ray: They do not tolerate any nonsense, Chad, so are unlikely to tolerate Black Adder.

They seem to be very clever having such a big head.
Ray: Yes...they have a quite elaborate hive life, Philine, and that probably means they have big brains.
Somewhat different in deisgn to the Wasps we get over here.
Ray: I have lost count of the number of species we have in Thailand, Brian...many look and befave differently. This one is most noticeable for its size, and its enormous paper nest.
