Post lamp

...in a temple garden...fitted with the latest in power-saving "bulbs".

[For those who might be interested...this represents something of an awakening for me...I shot the image with my 100mm macro lens, from a distance of about 40metres so that I could get the whole lamp-head in the frame. I don't normally use that lens as a walk-around instrument, but discovered it can be used for a lot more than bugs close-up.]

So we'll all getting our education, Ray! This is delightful...the shapes, colors, angles and POV.
Ray: So much to learn, Ginnie...but, I like the subject, and SC is a wonderful classroom for me.
Nice and crisp. Your city has beautiful light standards too.
Ray: Thanks, Mary.
Yes...Bangkok has a lot of positives.
I think you're right!

Macro lens can do anything. I don't really make a difference between a macro lens and any fixed focal lenses.

Macro lenses generally have great aperture and makes very sharp result. 50 mm macro are fine for portraits but....reveal all failures of your subject. I took a lot of non macro shots with my wonderful 105 mm macro.

You shot is sharp and beautiful. The lamp looks like fresh painted.
Ray: Thanks, Remi.
I am rather new to photography, and have much to learn...what fun!

Such bold colours Ray.I enjoy S/C for the info sharing,as you say so much to learn.
Ray: For me, Vintage, the quality of the images and the friendliness of the people on Shutterchance presents so many fun learning opportunities.

Classically beautiful- and a nice combination of colours -a very good close-up, I suppose that the post lamps are standing in a row- and how might they look at night?!
Ray: Thanks, Philine.
Actually, there were only two of these post lamps in this place...I must return there one night to see how they look when lit.

You are right about the macro. I find mine is also very good with portraits. Lovely blue skies.
Ray: Thanks, Louis. I am a bit slow, but the message eventually gets through.

I use my macro while out and about to. I quite like using fixed lens configuration, it makes me think about composition more. I like it Ray. mal
Ray: Interesting comment, thanks, mal.
This is the only fixed, and non IS, lens I own...I think it is the additional discipline required that makes it so interesting for me as well... like zooming with my feet, and bracing against walls or trees...
Good isn't it when you find something outwink Nice and sharp and colourful and with a nice little frame. AND environmentally friendlygrin
Ray: I am a bit of a slow learner, Bill, but it is nice when The message sticks.
Lovely shot,beautiful colours,really nice !!!
Ray: Thanks, Jimmy. So pleased you like this one.
Wonderful shot! Looks like I will have to start saving for the grown up camera...
Ray: Looks to me like you are doing very well with the camera you have, Jennie.
Very fine details, modern and old... Nice contrast
Ray: Yes...I liked to ultra-modern energy-saving "bulbs" in the lamp.
