Guest Gardener

The omnipresent, seriously agressive, fearsomely equiped, Red Ant is prepared to defend its claim over the blossoms on this fruit tree in the garden.

Unlike the Black Ants I presented yesterday, Red Ants work in teams, and this seems an important factor in their domination of the garden.

Little, but OH MY!
Ray: I am an expert at being bitten by the Red Ant, Bonnie, and can attest that there is pain! smile
Elles ont un air féroce.
Ray: Oh oui! Ce sont des guerriers, Martine.
Scary monsters!
Ray: Rulers of the garden, Frank.

They are a nasty bunch Ray.
Ray: No! Very pragmatic and playing a long game, Chad.

A classic case of strength of numbers. They have nasty-looking nippers.
Ray: They seem to have very good communications capability, Alan.
Oupsss....un peu effrayant quand même ...mais ta premiere photo est très belle !
Ray: On apprend à respecter la fourmi rouge!
The one in the middle picture is giving you an unfriendly look Ray
Ray: Yes! A "bugger off or get hurt" message, which I have learned to heed, Bill.
These shots remind me of those films where a poor soul is tortured by being by hoard of red ants. I don't know if I could do any gardening knowing there are red ants lurking there. Very brave of you, Ray.
Ray: I estimate that I get bitten by a Red Ant at least once each day, Beverly...very painful but the pain lasts only a few seconds. I am used to it now, and admire these critters for their fortitude.

Also, we eat Red Ants [very tasty in soup], so perhaps it is fare to get a painful bite each day. smile

Ants are usually very sociable creatures ...
Ray: Oh? Does that mean you think I am misreading the apparent aggression, and they might just be wanting to play? Those painful bights might just be love bites? smile
Great pics of the fierce little devils!
Ray: I admire the Red Ant greatly, Tom.
Brilliant images, Ray! They are fearsome!
