photoblog image Swamp in the Garden

Swamp in the Garden

Micro-swamp in the recreation garden, formed by run-off  from a generous soaking of the lawn.

Surface tension, and strong sunlight, assist in making the shallow, temporary  pool more interesting.

A Thai gardener watched my shoot...even approached to look over my shoulder as I knelt on the wet path at the edge of the grass...and his face clearly betrayed his conviction that he was in the presence of a foreigner who could only be described as "barking mad". Fortunately Thailand does not have a social security net, so he could not call for para-medics to cart me away.

Amusing story and beautiful picture. I like how much of it is out of focus - it gives it a more abstract feel.
Ray: Ha Ha...I am quite good at out-of-focus.

Ray, your focus is right on spot...in those beautiful puddles of water.

Thanks for the recipe from your photograph from yesterday. Where you out searching for more tasty treats this morning?
Ray: Water is such a fun medium, with its refraction, its surface tension and elasticity.
Yes...out foraging again this morning, but did not find anything edible and free.
I like it Ray because a lot of details to look at ! Very artistic managment of lights and colors !!
Ray: Thanks Zebigleb. I had t take a few shots before I got the one I wanted with the elastic water surface doing things to the light where the grass broke through.

Lots to look at indeed, Ray, especially underneath the surface. I love the greens and blues and rusts, the circles, the angles. It's FULL!
Ray: Thanks, Ginnie. I like ater puddles, and seem to take lots of pictures of them.
stunning shot Ray.
Ray: Happy to have "stunned" you, Tim.

Simple and elegant, Ray. Wonder, if more subdued colors would be more appropriate for the shot.

Ray: Thanks, VZ, for your comment and your suggestion.
Unfortunately I don't seem to have found the "subdue color" button on my camera or my PP software. [grin]
This holds the attention. It looks quite simple to begin with, but there are depths to it which are fascinating. (:o)
Ray: I couldn't find any bugs in this "swamp" though.

Ray: Nice comment, thanks Rosalyn. I love your use of "depth" in this way.

I can do 'barking mad' too wink

It makes a good picture, one that could be used to explain and describe surface tension.
Ray: [grin]
Thailand doesn't have social security, so I am safe.
England has social security...but they also seem to have a high tolerance of folks who are barking mad [I think they call it "eccentric" over there], so you are probably safe also, Ellie.
