photoblog image The come-on

The come-on

A species of wild millet grass, known as "lovegrass"  for its propensity to stick onto anything that gets close, has well and truly invaded the personal space of this unfortunate milkweed bloom.

This "behaviour" of the grass is its means of migrating its seeds...it takes a free ride on the belly fur of animals and the socks and shoelaces of humans; I doubt, though, that the milkweed bloom will be doing a lot of trekking.

It's like a wedding bouquet, Ray. Whoever would have thought!
Ray: It's a serious pain in the butt, Ginnie, if you stumble upon it. But, it is quite pretty close-up.

The wild grass has gorgeous colors, you captured that very well, I think it will be a funny sight if someones back is full of the 'love grass' you don't have to gues...gringrin
Ray: Ha Ha. Very funny, Astrid.
Actually...I once spent 30 minutes pulling this stuff out of a gal's sweater and hair after a little bit of an outdoor romp. [grin]

It looks so beautiful, photographed like this. I suspect it is similar to a weed I get in my garden, which I have always known as `goose grass`. Now, instead of cursing while it clings to everything, I will get out my camera and look at it in a different light. (:o)

No matter....fling a bit of vaseline on your lens and everyone will go "ooooo" and "aaahhhhh". [grin]
Superb composition Ray. I love the colours!
Ray: Thanks, Richard.
I am into flowering grasses at the moment...beautiful stuff when you get up close.
It is perfectly adapted to it's job with the burr shaped arms. I love grasses.

Looks like these flowers are getting friendly. I doubt either of them will do much traveling!
Ray: Very cuddly grass, but I sense the milkweed is not encouraging the situation.
Actually, martin, the grass travels widely, through it's offspring.
Never heard of that, nice one.
Ray: Lovegrass is sneaky stuff...doesn't advertise much, but just quietly invites itself along on all your trips.
Very nice and I like the colortones !
Ray: Grass flowers have very pretty colours.
