Workhorse [2/2]

Pink metered taxis...from pink metered taxi...

Bangkok has many Taxis...in addition to these air-conditioned Toyota Corollas, there are tuk tuks [3 wheeled, motorised rickshaws], and every lane has a swarm of motorcycle taxis.

You would certainly see 'em coming....
Ray: They used to be remarkable, Bill, but now they are everywhere.
So Bangkok not only has gorgeous temples and brilliant entertainment, it has colourful traffic as well.
Ray: The most common colour for a car is "silver", but there are many very colourful ones, Sheila.

Very interesting Ray: are tuk tuks as popular as ever?
Ray: There are many tuk tuks, Chris, but most of them have new four-stroke engines so don't make that characteristic "tuk tuk" sound any more...Onomatopoeia gone dead.
Brightens things up but wouldn't be my choice for a car colour.
Ray: Me too, Martin, but seems to work for this hugely popular taxi company.
Sounds like its the same in the whole of urbanised Asia.
Frenetic travels systems rule ... In Kolkata it's organised chaos but seems to work.
Ray: Strangely, Richard, it does seem to work.

In Adelaide pink cabs are for females with female drivers
Ray: Interesting, Vintage.
I did not know that.
It reminds of a film scene, when someone says, they have just got in that taxi, you turn around and there is a sea of red taxi's! Which one I wonder! smile
Ray: Ha Ha

Nice comment, Linda...I can see the scene.
You'd see one of these coming from a mile off. In the U.K.any guy driving a pink cab would be considered a bit unusual, if you get my drift.
Ray: As you can see in the pic, Brian, there are many taxis of this colour in Bangkok.

Actually, The King has popularised the wearing of pink shirts and sports jackets in recent years.
I got excited when I saw what I thought was a credit card in the window.
Ray: Chaditis is a rare disease Chad, but it can be treated successfully if diagnosed early in its lifecycle...
It sure brings some colour to the streets Ray.
Ray: That cannot be a bad thing, Ron.
And do all the driver make their obeisance as they drive past shrines, like the driver I had many years ago?!!!
Ray: Many drivers still behave in this manner, Tom...can be a bit alarming if they are rocketing along a city street at 100Kph and they take both hands off the wheel.
