Buffalos floating in a pool. Buffalos love to wallow in mud, or immerse themselves in shallow ponds...it keeps them cool, and helps to control the flies and bugs.
There are still many water buffalo in Thailand, but very few of them are used as bio-tractors anymore as mech-tractors have taken the heavy work off them. Now they are family pets, and the females occasionally produce a calf which will be fattened and sold for human consumption. Most people would not be able to distinguish buffalo from beef.
Farmers worry that land fertility will gradually deteriorate, as they are now using artificial fertiliser in place of the copious quantities of buffalo dung that used to be available.
